Today's Wedding

It looks as though Paula and Nicholas's wedding at The Felix Hotel in Cambridge is going to be a wet one, so it's very unlikely that the ceremony will be performed in the lovely Pagoda set at the end of the garden facing the circular steps leading  up to the hotel. We are obviously hoping for some dry periods in between when we can get outside for some photos, and I know Paula is determined to do so!

When we have inclement weather at  weddings, I always recall the late amateur astronomer Sir Patrick Moore's words when cloud inevitably obscured observation of the night sky, particularly at celestial events such as eclipses', 'Well, there's nothing we can do about it!'. And of course there isn't, so when photographing weddings we should make the best of what we have and turn it  to our advantage - photos in the rain can be fun if people let it be so, and I have a sneaky feeling that Paula might just be thinking the same today.

New equipment

I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of some additional lighting equipment for shooting on location. These are 4 radio transmitters and receivers that will fire our speedlight flashes or studio lights, especially during bright sunshine (we wish!) or even through walls and around corners over a long distance. In these conditions, the standard infra red triggers get blinded or are out of line of sight or are too distant and so they are ineffective.

I shot the photo below during a portrait location workshop in very bright sunshine, using just one 'Off Camera Flash', a beauty dish and these type of radio triggers.
